The not so sucky Too Cold to Hold 15k race report with the extra long title just for fun

This report doesn't suck because I was fast, because I wasn’t. It doesn't suck because, despite the menstrual merriment, I enjoyed myself and ran for fun.* A very small revenge on Mother Nature, but I’ll take it. Aside from frozen appendages, the only other unpleasantness was that the water tasted like ass. I have serious suspicions that by the time my slow kind got around to the water stations they were siphoning from the local lake; which was a landfill in its former life.

I don’t have my official time yet, but here is what Garmina has to say:

Obviously, I haven’t figured out how to run the negative split way yet. I’ve got plans to start improving that downward spiral soon; along with some other things like speed work. It might also be beneficial if I stop cheating myself by cutting the workouts short by a mile or two. I became blatantly aware of this mistake beginning around mile six.

My friends, Linda and Kate, walked their first 5k. They did great and I'm glad they enjoyed themselves and are excited for the next race. It was a fun, fun day. I'll post official times and pictures later.

*Don't be fooled by this.

Yes, I am also aware of the trauma of semi-colon-ness.

Well you started out a little fast there, missy. But you didn't bag it at mile 7 when the pace shot up. You brought it back down for the last two splits. Good finish. Good run.
Just love that racin'.

Nice job Susan! Also congratulations to Linda and Kate.

Thanks for throwing off my, "she doesn't post until Sunday theory."

That's a great time, and it's great you had fun. I just finished a half marathon under similar 'circumstances' and came away with the same feeling about my performance.

Looking foward to seeing you head my way in June.

is it just me, excuse me for a sec, *eats a square of chocolate*, but does it really suck, hold on, *eats another square*, that you can run a 9 min/mile, *eats another*, and only burn, *eats fourth*, 99 cals... the same amount of cals i just ate writing this comment.

my metabolism has no sense of humor.

i like your race, no hill profile Susan (bad Garmina, bad), but i'll assume some rolling, but otherwise you were a veritable pace bunny.

WELL DONE!

My Garmin thinks that is a lap of White Rock which I think is one of the best runs anywhere.

Katy and I have been working on making our fridge presentable. We've got fruit and vegies and little containers for everything. So please know that your blogging is doing good around the world. But, please no photos of your bathroom or else we will have to work on that one too.

Maybe you could have said.
"I have serious suspicions that by the time my slow kind got around to the water stations, they were siphoning from the local lake: a landfill in its former life."

or
"I have serious suspicions that by the time my slow kind got around to the water stations, they were siphoning from the local lake (which was a landfill in its former life)."

Some semi-colons would have been useful in the first four sentences though (I love playing around with punctuation). You should read Lynne Trusse's book 'Eats, Shoots and Leaves'.

Nice job, Susan. Just a little quick those first two miles, but otherwise it looks like even pacing.

Great job!! Were they serving Samuel Adams beer for the water, because that also tastes like ass. Can't wait to see the pics!

Good job Sus. :) That look very consistent. Maybe is the stinky water that makes you run faster :O

Laughed all the way through after the "water like ass" bit.

A good run - well done!

Why is it you always manage to say out-loud the things that I think?...ass water...ha.

I'm not sure if I should be...but I'm starting to get a little jealous of that HR. On my best hard-ass workout days I can't get my HR above 150. You are obviously more of a hard-ass than I...

well done..

A very good pace for a 15k! If you work a little on the negative split you will be a lightning!

It was a good solid run Susan - well done. Do some speed work and you'll be turbo-charged! And maybe go out a tad slower at the start of a race. Look forward to photos.

Tastes like ass. That will be in my head all day. Whew, glad that doesn't taste like ass, this is bad, but does it taste like ass?You had a great run. Nice job!

There's not much wrong with your time splits, Susan. Like Zeke said, a bit too fast for the first 2 miles, but very even for the rest of the run. You might have felt worse towards the end, but your pace was still pretty even. Well done.

You were kickin' some ass! Congratulations on a fab run! "Menstrual Merriment"??? I will have to remember that term for when my 14-year old starts complaining about life during that time of the month.

I want to do the Cowtown Half...not sure I can convince the family that ANOTHER trip to Texas, just to run a race, is necessary.

Good job, don't worry about negative splits, I rarely ever run them. For you it may be better to go by effort and adopt EBT.

Great results! Keep at it.

Question for a fellow runner willing to give advice. I am feeling BEYOND lazy!! I starting training in mid-July 2005 for my first marathon. Which I completed in Palm Beach December 3. I felt so discouraged with my time. (Which I would rather not even post!) I ran until about mile 23, but the heat there really got to me...Since completing my first marathon I have felt so embarrassed about my time, lack of motivation to run again, and just plain down in the dumps about my lack of accomplishment. I am having a HORRIBLE time getting my butt out running again. Any advice would be appreciated by anyone. I trained for 18 weeks alone, as none of my friends are runners, so they are really no help with this little dilemma! Thanks so much!
Sue :-)

Congrats on your race! It looks plenty fast to me at this time of the year! Very nicely done. :)

(and congrats to your friends that ran their first 5k. hopefully that's just the start of things to come for them!)

Sunbunny, sounds like your going through post marathon let down. It happens. Any chance of you joining a local running club? Always a good way to find new running friends and find a way to motivate yourself. Also sign up for another (shorter race) such as a 5K or a 10K. Remember running is fun and try to find the joy with it! Good luck.

More power to you Susan. I ran this I think 2 years ago, when it was only 5K. All I remember was feeling really really cold b4 the race, then during the race, and after the race. Cold cold cold cold cold cold cold! It'll be a while b4 I decide to tough it out again, esp. since it's now 10K colder!
