The people have spoken, and a half it is

At least for now. I really am glad about this decision. My main focus is on the Austin Half in February, and The Big D Half in April. My goal is to finish the Austin Half in under 2 hours and the Big D in 1:50. Both attainable goals if I train properly and incorporate a little speedwork. My ultimate goal is to run another full marathon this fall, perhaps Las Vegas, as I understand this is a really challenging Boston qualifier.*

I ran 5 SLOW miles on Saturday and felt hints of shin splints, my sign that I need new shoes. I've only had my shoes for two months. Huh, I can't believe I'm complaining about getting new shoes. I hope all of you had a happy holiday.

*And by a really challenging race I really mean, a really challenging weekend shopping at Ceasar's Palace and playing craps and drinking martinis** until 5AM.

**And by martini's (plural) I mean one before I start admiring the fraternity boys wandering around Caesar's Palace wearing togas and being hauled off to bed by my long suffering slightly more alcoholic friends.

So, ya, I just did Vegas earlier this month. It was a blast, super fun, but I did find it hard to stay hydrated in the days before the race (abundant alcohol and the worst tap water I've ever encountered). The course was uber-flat and really easy, and by God Vegas is balmy in December.

Sounds like a good plan! Those are great target half times. Good Luck! I love the new header and photo! I will email you sometime this week with ideas for my header. I am woefully uncreative, so hopefully I will come up with something good.

yes, susan, vegas is muy, muy challengning. there are distractions everywhere you look. mercifully, the night beofre the race, the cab dropped me off at the back of my hotel, allowing me to not have to walk through the sights and sounds of a sat night in the sin city. good luck!

Two halves and a full next year. You are braver than me (especially when you include the martinis and gambling).

Watch those darn shins, Susan. I hope the new shoes do indeed help.

C'mon -- you can do Vegas at +30C and then Winnipeg at -30C.

Alrighty then. Susan has a plan with all the essential indulgences: running, travelling, martinis, frat boys, temptation, warm weather and shopping.
Your shoes can't be done yet, can they? Are they a different model than before? I like to trade off between two pairs every run to give my feet a little variety. That way they don't get too accustomed to the same impact.

Marathon in Fall .. which we call Autumn which is before winter and that means carry the season add one ... it's hot here, so must be cool there and if I work that out correctly Vegas in September ... right?

1:50 Big D sounds like someone is going to be doing hills and speedwork ... I'll looking forward to that.

Susan, glad to hear you have a goal. That makes it easier to get out the door.

Nice new header too. I think the scroll of "Runner Susan" would make for a nice tatoo on you.
