Buttcamp & the paraphernalia lowdown

This morning was buttcamp - hard, of course. Lunges, lunges, lunges. Cardio, cardio, cardio. My legs are delightfully sore and stiff. I’m sure their suppleness will return and they will be ready for tomorrow’s miles.

A cell phone, a camera, a nana, and some gu. I know, I know - sounds like a lot of gear to haul around during a half. So here’s the lowdown on the half-mara accessory situation.

This is the itty-bitty keychain camera. Isn’t it cute?

I hooked it on the loop on my tights. Here are the splits it photographed miles 3-8. (Umm, not sure what happened during miles 6-8. We’ll just blame speed) Very purposeful. Don’t you think?

The cell phone? Unfortunately, work dictated its presence. The phone isn’t much bigger than the camera – it gets stuffed in my bra (with the pack of gu.) I usually carry my phone when I do runs over 7 miles. It’s dark and sometimes I’m alone – what can I say? I'm a safety girl. There may be an expectantly menacing hole waiting to swallow me. And, at 5AM, I’m not usually talking on it – I just feel better having it on the road with me.

Oh, and finally - my Nano, so slim and shiny – my one true love. Semi permanently attached in its rightful and harmonious place to my left arm.

See, all is right with the world - no pack mule required.

CONGRATULATION ON YOUR WHITE ROCK TIME....AWESOME!!!!!! Even though you are disappointed w/not breaking two, that is still a GREAT time!!! GREAT JOB!!!!

I run w/my phone on EVERY run (when I am not injured.) I have Nike short and in the winter, Nike tights that both have a perfect pocket in the butt/hip area. I do not feel it ever. The only problem is when people call to ask where you are, this does take energy out of your run and throws off your rhythm.

Again - congrats. Sorry that this is such an unorganized race - I hate it when you don't know where the mile markers are! You are definitely picking up speed!!

Unfortunately, putting things into my bra is not an option for me!

I took my phone on my 16-miler. Not so much for safety, as for the possibility that I would have to "phone a friend". Didn't need it after... :)

I did look like a pack mule, though. Had a camelback that goes around your waist. It has pockets for all the food and water I thought I would need on this run. Better over-prepared then under-prepared I always say. haha

That little camera takes pretty decent pictures. I think I will have to go get me one. Then I can have it to take pictures when the whimsy strikes.
Maybe next year I will run the half while you run the whole but let me see how small I can make my butt with inline skates first. Oh, that and not eating everything I possibly can.

Phone stuff in bra...this is why i need a bra (I mean a Bro). I never jog with my celly. It is too big.

With the mp3 player, the HRM, and all sort of gadgets, I am more like a Borg than a runner.

Cool pic! I love the last one. I have a little amphipod pocket my camera slips into so it's easy to get in and out of on the run. I keep my phone in the pocket of my Fuel Belt, so everything is very well organized and I usually forget it's there. Last week there was this weird car who kept going back and forth so I kept my phone in my hand just in case. You never know...

I have decided to use my lap counter from swimming to record my aplits in races. It's dead easy and dead small. Just wrap it round your index finger and off you go.

Great time on the half - congratulations!

Because of safety issues and technological advancements that have led to a decrease in the size of objects these days I suppose I can understand your points. Of course we want you to carry the camera so you can take pictures, and the ipod I have thought about as well, but not quite ready to take the plunge.

You do realize that "I'm a safety girl" is a line directly from Pretty Woman. Verbatim.

The fact that I know that speaks volumes about me, but that is neither here nor there.

Agreed..the nano rules. I can't imagine running with a cell though...especially down with the girls...would look like three boobs I suspect.

Gratz on the run!

Wasn't Pretty Woman about a prostitute? Hmmm...

Kidding. You're just a comment whore.

Well about running gear there so much to say.. I run with a camel pack and I put there a towel, camera, cell phone, gu... I can tell you I look ridiculus!!
What's that last photo about?
Is the buttcamp from billy blanks or who? I am thinking of trying it.

I'd take a phone with me but if someone called all they would get is heavy breathing and probably hang up! I guess I was way off with sliding it under your headband for hands free chatting.

i was going to comment a couple of entries ago about how maybe you shouldn't take your cell phone with you on races, but i was too busy commenting on amy's blog to remember.

hehehe.

Um, wouldn't it be easier to learn to work the watch!? :-) You can probably download the directions from the manufacturer website.

Susan, I generally have my cell phone with me, too. Especially on long runs, or runs in the dark. I definitely have to get me one of the cool little cameras! Sweet!

just so we can complete the visual...

that picture on the right, is the reason you're flashing 'two' because that's how many items you have stuffed in your bra?

Actually I can relate to all that - I am the original gadget girl! i also take my phone on long runs - more for security than anything. Occasionally someone calls me!

That camera is soooo cute - love it! And as for the ipod - say no more, mine is an essential running accessory.

I almost always bring the phone. So far, no one has called a 5:15 to ask where I am :)

Your bra!?!? What a great idea... Why didn't I think of that? Honestly though, I carry my phone on anything longer than 5 too. Just in case...
