The martini cleanse

Kenza was invited to an impromptu sleepover last night. This means Susan and Michael get impromptu date night. A glass of wine leads to one martini, two martinis, and three - while a really smooth gin can turn good sex into great sex - its magical power has an unfortunate adverse effect on running.

Between 4AM and 5AM Susan tried a new cleanse: the martini cleanse. AKA the involuntary cleanse. Half a gallon of water, 2 cups of coffee and a handful of ibuprofen later; Hangover Susan and Introspective Susan have a conversation and decide that an unscheduled, impromptu run might just redeem Runner Susan. 5.168 miles later Susan returns home. Pace 9:56 per mile. Acceptable, yes - redeeming, not so much.

Ah. I see Susan is still not Susan, she who refers to herself in the third person.

A run with a hang over... well I prefer not to try it, I've done it but not since a long long time.
Still I think that definitely helped you to acelerate the recovery on the martini's session.

Funny how alcohol seems to make certain areas of life seem more exciting, then reality of your morning run sets in :)

I drank WAY too much the past week. I am in need of a serious detox.

Instead of martinis we were in to the wine last night. Fully agree with you on all parts. I skipped my masters swim this morning but redeemed by self at tri practice. What a day to go though -- we did a 20 minute time trial. Yuck.

I just can not imagine running with a hangover. Man, I had a hard time getting up to change the channel from the couch when I used to drink. I couldn't do much of anything. I didn't begin running until after I quit drinking. Good effort.

Frankly my dear, that is commendable. You managed to do all of my favorite things in less than twelve hours and probably are way better for it. I think the gallon of water was the redeeming element in keeping you alive today. Keep drinking.

Very redeeming indeed. You beat my fastest pace, WITH a hangover. As for the "alcohol & sex" thing... I find the 2nd is much better without the 1st. No deadening of the nervous system :) - not that I'd know anything about that lately. Hmmfph!

Well done on convincing Runner Susan to get out. I think in my case Runner CJ would have just pulled the doona over her head and ignored the other CJs! I have run with a hangover but its not pretty.

After running over 5 miles with a hangover, I'd say you are completely redeemed, and you've just earned my total respect. That's probably more impressive than a 6:00 pace.

Redemption is yours. ESPECIALLY after a martini hangover!! Martinis, for some reason, can KNOCK me on my ass!! You are one tough mama!

Oh dear...that's impressive. 5+ miles with a hangover. 3 beers is enough to put the whammy on me lately.

lemme get this straight: you had a glass of wine, 3 martinis, sex, and knocked off under 10 minute miles for 5 miles at 4am...
