Slow, Slow Run

Set out at 5AM this morning with Richard to do a long slow run. It was cold - 52 degrees - and very windy. Our course was set for a 13 mile run, but soon into the run I knew I was tired and my joints were achy and I headed off early to cut the run short. At about mile 8.5 my left ankle and right knee were hurting, so I decided to speed things up, if it's gonna hurt - make it hurt good. It did. I'm still pretty sore - my glutes, ankles, groin and neck. I ran 10.69 miles in 1:53:03. Mediocre time - but, still so nice to be back on the road. The Dallas Half is in 2 weeks - hopefully, I'll be in a little better shape by then. (Flatman, are you running The Half?)

After the run I walked 1.25 miles back to my house - showered and then walked another 1.25 miles back to my car with Kenza cart-wheeling beside me the whole way. Then, I met up with Linda, Sarah and Kate to have breakfast at IHOP - a rarity for me. Now I know why. I swear they must give the waitresses free crack in exchange for lifetime employment. It's a scary, scary place.

It is always tough to work things out after a marathon. I was feeling kind of rickety and worn out today. I told my running partners it must be PMSS (Post Marathon Stress Syndrome).

I am glad first that there is no more posting about milf and bras :). Very distracting for a guy.

Also glad u start to run again. You have another race so fast? Is this your A race?

One more question, do u eat anything before you run???

Yeah; I'm wondering how you manage to roll out for a half so soon after a full. You must be bionic.

Ha! I love IHOP but we usually go with friends just in case the scary workers murder us and try to put us in the freezer. Strength in numbers!!!

It was chilly here today (in TN) too - our high was around 10 this morning at 55 degrees and dropping rapidly ever since. BRRR! Bring back fall!!

That is so true about IHOP. The Waffel House is worse, they really do hire killers there. Last time I got suckered in to going there was a bandaide in my food. Gag.

omg, PMSS, somebody thought of an acronym already! That's much simpler than the term I came up with!
I shall have to try this IHOP crack center you speak of =)

Yuk. Waffle House. You had to bring THAT up, Gretchen... Our IHOP is not too bad. The Denny's is worse. Might as well just drink a half-gallon of bacon grease for breakfast.

The Half. I pondered it, but still haven't registered. Plus, I am suppposed to run like 18 that day, so I would have to warm up for 5 miles before???? (!) There is still a small chance of it I suppose...

Your neck hurt? That's unusual. I wonder if you were scrunching it up from the pain. Hope you heal up well, in time for your race.

I've been to an IHOP, though it sounds like its not a very good place to go eat.

Hey Susan
Great article about the physics of one who needs such things I find it interesting. Hopefully with the increase in the number of women athletes, the induistry might finally figure out how to make an effective sports bra that doesn't make you look like you're wearing your grannies thermals!!!!

Great run!

I agree w/Flatman - Dennys is worse! I had a waitress (probably on crack at that moment) trying to hit on me during lunch. She sat in the booth behind me and was talking to me from directly behind me asking me to pass the salt and pepper .....uh....that was one of the most bizarre lunches I had! No more Dennys for me!! Ugh.

Flatman can do the 1/2 with you and then run another 5 miles afterwards!

Many many years ago, I had my first, only, and last meal at a Waffle House in Cincinnati. I was on a tech project that required us to work the overnight shift, so we'd leave for "lunch" around 1:00 am or so.

I still remember the waitress bringing our 4 glasses of OJ to the table. The first 3 glasses she arranged in a triangle, which she then held between her two hands. The 4th glass was propped somewhere else on her body. No, not there between the turkeys for you regular Susan readers ... worse, in her (sleeveless, I might add) armpit! Ugh! Ack! Thbbbbt! I wasn't about to drink from that glass; hey, who knows what else has been up that armpit?!

The only thing good about Denny's or IHOP is.... you always know what you're in for. Any state in the union... greasy food, crappy service...guaranteed or your $ back!

I'm getting the idea a lot of you live close to each other. Hope I meet some Seattle-ite bloggers... so far the closest is Steven in Oregon. But he's too damn fast for me! :)
