5 days to go - MAN WARNING: a bit too much information

I'm the luckiest girl in the world. Today my head is pounding, my sinuses are inflammed, my hormones are raging, I have a yeast infection and I just started my period. The lucky part is that it should be OVER by Sunday, race day - let's hope. Nothing bites more than running 26.2 miles with a tampon to chaf your insides. Sorry guys - I wouldn't want an appendage that did things without my control either - you can post away all you want about that. Mother nature is playing the funniest joke on me. I'm laughing.

Ok, now seriously, my list is ready, my suitcase is out, and the packing has begun. I'm not quite sure how to carry my gels. I think I'm going to put two under my hat and carry one. I was going to do one every six miles and they are supposed to have a gel station at mile 18. Maybe I should take 4 or 5. Will it look greedy if I stash 2 under my hat at mile 18? Should I wear my race belt or not . . .hmmm, just can't decide. This is my third marathon and I am STILL nervous.

How about I meet you at one of the stations and just give you a new gel?

i've popped them under my hat in the past and that seems to work okay. three gels under that hat is pushing it, though.

I don't like to stick pins in my cool max shirt so I wear a number belt. you can get a little pouch to go on the belt to hold the gels too.

good luck on sunday I hope your i hate eve stops in time.

Drink juices, take vitamins, take care as much as yu can!!! You need to be fine. Take glutamine, it works very good on general health too, well you should know all of this, this is your thirth marathon!! Believe me I am excited about you, by the way do you already have your number??
Now you will be the banner expert, the one you made for flattman is even better than yours, you are even improving on that!!!

Why was I under the impression this was your first marathon...duh - sorry. You can take a few gus at mile 18 - no one will mind - they have more than enough!! Glad your female issues are happening this week instead of this weekend!! Nice job on Flatman's header!

Periods just plain...(I can't think of a word that doesn't form a horrible pun or image right now) you should be well past by race day. Have you seen those shirts that have gel pockets on the shoulders? That might be my next little purchase...

Good luck Sunday-I think that race looks awesome.

uhh, I should have read the title. I'm sure things with the nutrition will go well. Even though I'm as guilty as anyone, I think we tend to overthink these things. Just don't do anything new for the race.

Hopefully Aunt Flo will have left by Sunday ;)
I have a small hip sack that I wear from Road Runners Sports, and I can stash my MP3(I have yet to upgrade to the Nano), and my gels, gummy bears, or what-have-you. Under the hat should work well, too. What kind of gels do you like? I have a soft spot for the Gu brand gels, in the Espresso flavor (it has caffeine.)Chocolate Outrage is good, too.

Hey! Ohhhhh I feel your pain. How come when things can go wrong they will? You seem to be taking it all in stride. I love to hear about stuff like gel stashing. This is all stuff I have not yet expierenced, but I look forward to it. Just to clarify,I am not looking forward to any of the infection parts just the racing parts.

This gel stashing problem just sounds like the perfect excuse to do a little shopping at the expo :)

Good luck in Chicago. Have fun. Take pictures. Be strong.

I am famous (or infamous) for stuffing things down my bra. On my daily runs my house key, ID and change all get stuck down there. Race day, that's where my gels are too. Sounds weird, but it works for me!
Nice job on Flatman's header -- your's is great too!

good luck this weekend! it's your third, you're a pro! as far as the gel thing, everyone has great ideas. i just bought a pair of pants at Target ($22.99) that have a little zippered pocket in the back, just below the waistline. i carry my cell phone (a flip) and one gel in it. you could probablly get at least 3 gels in though, if that is all you are carrying. it's just a thought. but then, you may already have your marathon gear ready. anyway, good luck with "the curse" and get lots of rest this week. you'll do great!

Susan, that header on flatman's blog is AWESOME! great job! And here's wishing you'll be all done with that other little problem by race day. I bought one of those little pouches that slide onto a water belt, and I like it. can stick all kinds of junk in there, even though i travel light (just gus and you know, that female stuff.

Go get 'em!

Good Luck!!

And I will be joining you in your 'female' status, except I suspect race day with be Day One for me...I mean, why not? Happened at the RBF-fest New Haven 20k, why not the marathon too?

Stupid girl stuff. Be less crampy and gross.
